Hey Guys, any Saltwater gurus out there? My brother is going to Belize in a couple months and I want to tie him some flies. The only problem is I haven't the slightest idea what to tie for Belize for February. Would appreciate any help. :)

Hey Rick., where in Belize? I was there for a couple of months and fished a few areas there and it depends if he wants to fish for bones, permit, tarpon, cudas, or? There is a variety of flats, channel, rivers and mountains.

Hey Robin, the islands are Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, he will be staying at both.

A lot of Charlie / shrimp style patterns for bones, merkins and mantis for permit, standard poon flies (deceivers etc) and maybe a couple of needlefish flies and poppers with wire leaders for cudas. I'd send you some of my saltwater fly pattern books but everything is in boxes as we are soon to get the house painted inside...

That gets me started, I will some research. :) Much appreciated.

I used to tie all winter for my tropical trips. Feb is just around the corner so definitely purchasing is a quick option. He can also get flies at Ambergris Key. Lots of steelheading guides bumming around.

Hey RickB DM me your address and I will send you some flies from my vast collection. I have boxes of tropical saltwater flies.

Tell your brother to pin as many of the lil' buggers he can. There were plenty that I missed and us anglers need to exact our revenge. Ha ha!

Glad is was a successful trip for you.
Thanks, robinwakefield. Been down in that neck of the woods 3 times, along the Mexico/Belize border and prefer the Mexican side of Chetumal as it is more protected, has many more DIY options and is easier on the wallet. Likely headed that way again in the fall in search of the elusive "Permit to hand" ....... sigh .......

It took me 3 trips and a lot of bent out flies, broken rods and seized reels before I got any of those black tailed devils.
